When you are preparing for one of the toughest medical entrance exams in India, it is natural to face some pitfalls or not get the results you wanted. Everyone arrives at different situations in their lives – both minor and major. The critical thing to notice is how you maintain the attitude towards your goals.
If you were preparing for NEET and did not score your intended marks, you can still give it another shot. There are plenty of students who do not get the college they want, even after securing excellent marks. Some students will never settle below AIIMS while others may be happy to study medicine at any top medical college in the country. You might be from any side, but if you are dropping a year to study and crack NEET; it is better that you get started right now.
Most students get unsuccessful not because they do not know the subjects or topics thoroughly, but because they skip mock tests, are not consistent and do not follow a comprehensive strategy to prepare. If you are targeting NEET 2019, you need to have a strategy and a timetable in place that will be followed by you religiously.

Timetable
Do not make a timetable that you are not able to follow. Set realistic goals for yourself but be ambitious and have a flair for going the extra mile. A realistic timeline will be easier to follow on a daily basis. Cut out unnecessary chores from your routine to focus on your studies. However, do note that unrealistic expectations can affect NEET preparation adversely. Below are some tips you can review and then inculcate in your timetable:
- Review your last year’s preparation and NEET exam to gauge your strengths and weaknesses
- Allocate time according to your strong and weak areas, per subject
- Do not forget to include recreational activities in your timetable
- Make sure the schedule has a structure
- Dedicate time towards revision, mock tests and exam series (never skip this)
2. Lay a Strong Foundation for Fundamentals
In exams like NEET, having clear fundamentals will make things so much easier that studying will not seem like a task. Most students do not have their basics in place, and this makes studying feel like a chore. With strong fundamentals, it will be easier to solve difficult questions. Lay special emphasis on NCERT textbooks and learn every theorem including the workings of every concept.
3. Practice. Practice.
Three times because you are supposed to practice in that ratio. If you study for one hour, make sure you are solving questions for at least three hours. The best way to practice is by solving mock tests and previous year papers. It acquaints you with the type of questions and helps in furthering your chances of a good rank. Moreover, revision makes a huge difference in securing an average and a good rank. It is also the best way to know how prepared you are on a certain topic or subject. Practicing will also eliminate any apprehension and improve confidence. However, make sure you do highlight essential questions and areas that are still not up to the mark. Alter your timetable if your weak areas are more than your strong ones.
4. Choose the Mode of Study, Wisely
With so many NEET coaching centres and a sheer number of students appearing for NEET, there is always a confusion about choices. Do not be afraid of marching at your own beat.
