NCERT Solutions for Class 6 English Supplementary Chapter 3: The Shepherd's Treasure

The story is about a wise shepherd who becomes rich when the king understands his strength and gives him a responsible position in his kingdom. The main aim of the story is to make one understand that no matter what a situation may be like, one should remain humble regardless. The story begins with a very poor and uneducated shepherd who lives in a small village in Iran. Through common sense, he used to advise people and help them out of their miseries and so, many people came to him for advice, and he slowly became popular for this, and one day the king heard about him and decided to meet him. The king disguised himself as a shepherd and came to meet the shepherd, and he (the shepherd) gave his water and a share of his meal to the disguised one and spent the night with him. The king was impressed with his hospitality and wise talks and made him the governor of a small district, and when rumours about him started spreading, the king called upon him to verify the rumours and was embarrassed to know that they were not true and made him the governor of an even bigger district immediately.
