NCERT Solutions for Class 6th English Chapter 7: Fair Play

A retold story originally written in Hindi by one of the most celebrated authors of Hindi Literature Munshi Premchand is about two friends who had to decide what was important-friendship or justice. The story deals with the importance of the position of justice or a judge, over a bond of deep friendship between Jumman Sheikh and Algu Chaudhary. Jumman's aunt had transferred her entire property to Jumman on the condition that he would look after her. But soon enough Jumman and his wife changed their behaviour. She was not treated well by the family and was treated rudely. When things went beyond her bear, she spoke to Jumman and requested him to give her money upon a monthly basis while Jumman neglected her words and insulted her and so she dared to take the matter to the Panchayat to save herself and chose Jumman's best friend, Algu as her head Panch. The story revolves around this plot and ends with reconciliation between the two best friends.
