NCERT Solutions for Class 6 English Chapter 10: The Banyan Tree

The last chapter of Honeysuckle- The banyan tree is a two-part story that portrays the story of a fight between two rivals in nature- a cobra and a mongoose. The first part talks about how the fight broke out between the cobra and the mongoose, which was witnessed by a boy who liked to read adventure books. He also used that place to look around the world under the tree where he used to sit and read. Because of the heat, everyone stayed indoors, and the boy was thinking of taking a dip in the pond to swim with the water animals, and that is when he saw the cobra and the mongoose come out. Apart from the boy, there were two other spectators as well - a myna and a crow and also joined them in the fight and attacked one another in the air but safely returned. The fight concludes with the snake resigning and the mongoose dragging and pushing it inside the bushes while the myna gave a congratulatory shrill and flew away.

• The story talks about adventure wildlife- the photographs at the beginning of the story are crucial for understanding the text as it will help children deal with the text that goes with the photographs.
• Any reason that children can think of why the mongoose should always be so keen on fighting the cobra should be welcomed, and the class should be read aloud short excerpts from Treasure Island, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn in short story reading sessions.
