NCERT Solutions for Class 6 Poem Chapter 1: A House A Home

Honeysuckle begins with its first poem 'A House A Home' which is based on the differences between a house and a home. Lorraine M. Halli's poem points out the differences between a house and a home and while listing a large number of differences between them says that a house and home is not the same thing but is, in fact, two different entities altogether. The poet Lorraine M. Halli paints the house's picture as a basic structure and is made only with bricks, stone and other building materials and does not have much to it apart from concrete windows, doors, and other physical features. Whereas, a home is different as a house becomes a home when people live in it with their loved ones.

• The short poem teaches us the importance and value of family. A family has the power to make any boring place into a happy place which is full of love and life.
• The poem attempts to bring the children's attention to the idea that there is no place like home. No matter where one may go, it can never become home because their family does not live in it to make the house a home by sharing love between the family members and living in happiness.
• The poem also teaches an important act that charity begins at home and contains exercises to bring out the difference between a house and a home.
