NCERT Solutions for Class 6th English Chapter 2: How the Dog Found Himself a New Master

The second chapter in honeysuckle- 'How the Dog Found Himself a New Master' describes the story of a time when the dogs used to roam freely without any kind of restraint on them. The man did not tame them by then and described a time when the dog was not the man's best friend and had no owner. The story takes on that situation and tells how the man and the dog finally became best friends for life and how the man learned to do the same so that they both can become the friends they are today. We already know that the dog and the wolf are closely related and how, for centuries, humans have domesticated and tamed animals for years. This chapter continues the same tale forward and introduces how the same thing happened to dogs, to children in a fun manner. The story and exercises contain the following:

  • The story is a folk tale that is a form of popular stories passed on generally in a spoken form from one generation to another. It can be divided into three or four parts where each part ends with the listener wondering what comes next.
  • The 'Word Search' clues are to be explained at length before they are attempted as all the 'hidden' words are adjectives and using this, other word searches can be prepared for nouns and verbs as well. Under 'working with language', items B and C will lend themselves for the formation of connected sentences.
  • 'The dog family' activity will need time and patience as it will require completing the tree by the student before the class.
