Desert Animals talks about the animals that live in the desert and throws light upon the ways they adapt themselves to the weather and the different methods they use to adjust to its harsh life. For instance, Gerbils spend the hottest part of the day in their burrows that are below the ground to provide them with the coolness they require. Darkling beetles drag drops of moisture on their legs which they lift them into the air and their mouth. Mongooses search for their food in the group and are known for their ability to kill snakes without hurting themselves and lastly the camel is known for its abilities to survive the desert due to their long shaggy coats to keep them warm during winter which falls away and gets shorter in summer to keep them cool. People believe that the camel's hump is a storage container and it stores water in it but in actuality stores fat which feeds the camels to avoid starvation.

• The main theme of this story is wildlife. This can even be extended with the help of the science teacher by connecting it with the biological reasons to why they are sustaining in such hard weather conditions.
• The speaking activity focuses on the use of superlative adjectives which should be further extended by including other forms as well.
• The 'thinking about language' task is set with the aim to enable children to see the use of the given phrases in different contexts and the class can also be made to talk about the desert areas of India to make the story more relatable and about places like Ladakh to explain to them that while deserts are hot, they can be very cold as well.
