NCERT Solutions for Class 6th English Chapter 1: Who did Patrick's Homework

The first chapter of NCERT Solutions of Class 6- 'Who did Patrick's Homework' by Carol Moore is a short story about a boy named Patrick who is interested in sports more than he is in studies. And one thing he hates more than anything is doing homework that has been given to him and tried to avoid it at all costs. But good luck came his way, fortune favoured him once when he saved an elf from a cat and the elf burdened with gratitude offered him a wish and Patrick being a child who is not at all interested in homework, asks the elf to do his homework for him till the semester ends. The story ends with an interesting situation where Patrick learns to love his homework and studies because the elf asks for Patrick's help. While helping the elf, Patrick gets interested in studies and eventually scores good marks in his examinations.
- The chapter talks about Magical Realism- magic that is only make-believe and is not real. Patrick's inspiration that personified itself by him doing his homework, teaches children that self-help is the best help and keeps them keenly interested in talking about homework as well due to the story.
- The chapter demands a discussion on magical realism. This discussion can even be done in class in the presence of teachers to moderate and monitor the discussions. The class can enliven homework by taking a close look at the chapter under the 'speaking' exercise.
- The story also comes with comprehension questions at the very end that is to be taken up orally before the answers can be written down on paper and also has a crossword puzzle to test the learners' memory and train them in problem-solving skills.
