NCERT Solutions for Class 6 English Poem Chapter 5: Where do all the Teachers Go?

For young kids, a teacher is a very special person. It is very difficult for a young child to accept that a teacher is also a common man or woman living around him, just like them and their family. The child is curious and questions if their teachers also behave as other people do. Whether or not they too do all the work like everyone else? Do they live in houses and wear pyjamas (clothes), wash socks or watch T.V when they are free? And do they also live with their parents and children just like many others? All these questions trouble a child's mind and make them curious and to understand this. The child decides to follow his teachers one day to understand what they do and to write a poem about them so that when the teachers read the poem to their students. The poem through the boy shows the cuteness, curiosity and dilemma of a young mind for its teachers and also shows their expectations from them.

  • The poem can be read aloud among the children in groups of five. The first and last verse should be read out by the same person, and the remaining four verses can be read out in turns by others in the group.
  • The children can also be allowed to interview a few of their teachers and ask them what they do at home and outside of school.
  • This can even be attempted as a mini project and teachers can also talk about their school and English class when they used to be a student.
