1800-102-2727The story "Golu grows a nose" revolves around Golu, a baby elephant with a bulgy nose. Golu lived at a time when elephants had bulgy noses instead of trunks. Golu used to have many questions in his mind and was curious. Golu once asked the ostrich why it couldn't fly high like other birds. He also asked the hippopotamus why his eyes were so red. Golu had a curiosity about crocodiles and what they eat for dinner as he never met a crocodile. He asked mynah regarding this. Mynah advised him to go to the great Limpopo river to feed his curiosity.
On his way to the river, Golu met the python. He asked about the crocodile, but he did not receive any answer from the python. However, the python quietly followed the elephant. When Golu reached the river, he found a log of wood, which was the crocodile. Golu asked the crocodile whether he had seen the crocodile before. The crocodile introduced himself, which triggered Golu's question of what crocodiles eat for their dinner. The crocodile then decided to trick Golu and came near him. He requested Golu to come near so that he could whisper the answer in his ears. As Golu went near him, the crocodile quickly grabbed him by the nose. The crocodile said that Golu would be his dinner for that night. On seeing this, the python came to save Golu from the crocodile.
He advised Golu to get as far from the crocodile as possible. To save Golu, the python coiled himself around Golu and pulled him backwards. As he was pulling, Golu's nose started growing and ultimately became five feet long. However, Golu escaped from the evil crocodile, but his nose was so long after that.
Golu grows a nose is a short story that tells us that curiosity, although useful, can lead to disastrous consequences.
