NCERT Solutions for Class 7 English Supplementary Reader Chapter 3: The Desert

iacst-2022

Most people who live in a desert might wonder how a place without water and vegetation exists on the earth. Desert is a spread of land with hot air, sand, almost no water bodies and shelter. For people who research the lands, deserts are a beautiful place. They consider the desert as the home of a variety of people, animals and plants.

Some of the facts about deserts include they do not have grass, plants and other vegetation as rains are rare. However, when there are regular rainfalls, this dry land turns into a tropical garden. A green patch along with freshwater trees in the middle of a desert is a beautiful sight. In general, terms, if a place has little or no water and vegetation, it is called the desert. An oasis looks like a green island in the middle of a desert. Oasis is a place where a spring or well acts as a source of water and results in plants and trees' growth.

A desert is not necessarily a flat, unchanging wasteland of dry sand. Deserts contain mountains and hills, which are often called sand dunes. The deserts are usually hotter in the day and colder at night. The sand dunes usually shift from one place to another due to winds. The plants and animals which live in deserts are capable of surviving without water. The first creature that comes into our mind in the desert is the camel. Camels are capable of surviving without water for longer days. The creatures get water from other animals or plants in the desert.

The climate is usually humid, and there is an equal amount of hotness and rain. There is neither extreme hotness or coldness in the normal tropical regions. The Desert story leaves a strong message about deserts' value and why they should not be despised. These lands must be considered and valued. The deserts are the gifts of nature, just like the tropical rainforests and high lands.
