1800-102-2727Water is among the essential elements on earth. All plants and animals need water to survive. This chapter explains the different kinds and ways water is generated, used, prevailed and stored. Water that is safe for drinking is known as potable water, and there are various sources from where water can be collected. The chapter also discusses concepts like water distribution, ocean circulation, tides, waves and ocean currents. The major sources of freshwater include the rivers, ponds, springs and glaciers and ocean bodies and seas contain salty water which creates a distinction between water safe for consumption versus the one that is not.
We also learn the concept of tides and understand its types, like, during the high tide, the water covers much of the shore by rising to its highest level, and during the low tide, the water of the sea and ocean falls to its lowest level. It recedes from the shore and finally when water on the surface of the ocean rises and falls alternately called waves and the strong gravitational pull exerted by the sun and the moon on the earth's surface that causes the tides. We then move forward to talking about ocean currents, which are streams of water flowing, constantly on the ocean surface in definite directions that may be warm or cold that originate near the equator and move towards the poles.
