NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Social Science Civics Chapter 1:On Equality

India is a democracy. This gives people the rights of participation, the resolution of conflict, and equality and justice. Equality is the pivot of democracy and influences all of its working. In a democratic country, like India and America, all the adults irrespective of their religion, education, caste, or status in the society are allowed to vote. The power or right to do so is called universal adult franchise and is a cornerstone of all democracies. The idea behind a universal adult franchise is derived from the idea of equality as equality says that every adult in a country cannot be differentiated based on their wealth and community, respectively.

The Indian Constitution recognises and mandates that every person is equal before the law. This means that every person in the country, including males and females, regardless of the discriminatory tags of castes, religions, tribes, educational and economic backgrounds, is considered equal before Indian Law. This doesn't mean that inequality ceases to exist. Besides being discriminated against for being poor, people from low castes are unequally treated specially in rural areas. However, in democratic India, the principle of all persons' equality is recognised, and they have the right to go to courts and enforce their right to equality.
