1800-102-2727This chapter explores what makes up the earth, its different components and how they sustain together by covering topics such as the Interior of the Earth, Rocks and Minerals, Types of Rocks, Types of Minerals and others. This chapter will begin by first teaching us about the uppermost layer over the earth's surface called the crust, which is the thinnest of all the layers, about 35 km on the continental portions and only 5 km on the ocean floors. The crust is also present in the oceans known as the oceanic crust whose main components are silica and magnesium; giving it the name Sima- an amalgamation of names Silica and Magnesium.
We move ahead to learning about the innermost layer called the core, which has a radius of about 3500 km. The core comprises nickel and iron, which is why it is called the nife layer (Ni – nickel and Fe – iron). The earth's core has extremely high temperature and pressure and is always extremely hot and hard to reach. For students to understand the chapter easily, each topic is explained beautifully with proper illustrative examples to know and understand the facts about our planet in which we all live.
