NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Social Science Geography Chapter 1:Environment

iacst-2022

The environment is defined as the place, people, things and nature that surround any living organism. It is a combination of two aspects- natural and human-made phenomena. While the natural environment refers to both biotic and abiotic conditions on earth, human-environment refers to the activities and interactions between the environment and human beings globally. Chapter 1 of geography explores this very symbiosis of the environment, how the environment functions and what does it comprise of such as hydrosphere which comprises of various sources of water. This contains different types of water bodies like rivers, seas, lakes, oceans, etc. and is essential for the survival of all living organisms.

We will then study the hard top layer of the earth called lithosphere made up of rocks and minerals. It is also encapsulated by a thin layer of soil and has various landforms and is also found over the continents and ocean floors. Lastly, we will study the thin layer of air surrounding the earth called atmosphere held by the earth's gravitational force around it, which protects us from the sun's harmful rays and is a mixture of various gases. It also contains dust and water vapour. Any kind of change in the atmosphere produces changes in the weather and climate, and we will study plant and animal kingdoms that together make the biosphere, also known as the living world which is the narrow zone of the earth where all three aspects of nature- land, water and air interact with each other. They do so to support life on earth.
