"The Accidental Tourist "is a humorous story where the author Bill Bryson narrates his own experience as an air traveller. He was a confused person who cannot do various things properly. He visits the lavatory in the cinema several times but ends up standing in an alley on the wrong side of the self-locking door. He used to forget his hotel room number, for which he had to go to reception two to three times a day. Once when he was going to England with his family, he remembered that he had a discount card in his bag to find those he opened his bag of which the zip broke and all his things in the bag rained out and spread everywhere in the airport.

Once the tourist bent over to tie his shoelace, and someone above his seat had thrown his seat back into full recline. One time he spilt the cold drink in the lap of an old lady sitting beside him. The worst experience was when he was talking to a girl and took the pen in his mouth. It leaked, and ink covered the mouth. He got his mouth, chins, gums, and tongue blue. He was so fed up with his habits so he avoided eating on board. He also forgets to ask for air meals. He could never take the benefit of discount cards. He even missed the opportunity of availing first-class flight to Bali.

The story gives the reader a message that it is important to be well organised and planned for trips. Bill Bryson says that not everyone can fit in the part of travelling.
