NCERT Solutions for Class 9 English Moments Chapter 4 : In The Kingdom of Fools

"In the kingdom of fools" is an intriguing tale of a kingdom ruled by a king who was really foolish in his behaviour and outlook.

One day, a saint and his disciple arrived in the kingdom. They were astonished by the fact that people worked during the night and slept during the day. All the food items there were very cheap. The saint asked his disciples to leave the kingdom because he knew one could not make a living in that foolish kingdom, but the disciple held up in his greed did not leave with his guru. One day, a man went to the king for justice.

He claimed that his brother was stealing a rich merchant house, and during that, the wall of the merchant's house fell on his brother, and his brother died. The king summoned all the people who were involved in the death of the thief, the merchant whose wall was broken, and the man who build the wall, the dancing girl because of whom the builder had resulted in building a weak wall, and the Goldsmith due to whom the dancing girl was forced to move around in the street that whole day. The king ended up deciding that the merchant's father was the culprit. The minister felt that the merchant was too thin to be killed by the stake.

The king ordered them to find a healthy person to punish in place of the merchant. As the disciple had become too fat, men took him to the king. The innocent disciple begged his guru for help. Guru used his Intelligence and wisdom to trap the king. In the end, the guru became the king of the kingdom.

Thus, this story depicts that foolish people are unpredictable and can be very dangerous, so one must stay away from them for their benefit.
