NCERT Solutions for Class 9 English Beehive Chapter 5 : The Snake and the Mirror

The author hears this story from his friend, where he tells about his encounter with the snake. One day he came to his home, lit up the kerosene lamp and started reading a book. He was thinking about many things. One of them was marrying. He was thinking about marrying a fat girl to not run after him when he wanted to run away. He also wants to marry a doctor who is well off. Due to immense summer heat, he could not sleep, so he started gazing himself in the mirror and admiring himself.

Suddenly he felt that something fell on the back of his chair. He was horrified to see a large snake behind the chair. He was very scared, and the snake coiled itself in his left arm. Suddenly the snake saw its reflection in the mirror, and it was more interested in looking at itself rather than the narrator. The snake slipped to the narrator's lap and was walking closer towards the mirror.

The narrator stood up and ran to his friend's place and stayed all night there. Next day he decided to change his house. He was shocked to see nothing around him. The thief had stolen everything, and there was no sign of the snake. The narrator's friend asked some questions regarding the story. This is a humorous story about the doctor and his experience with the snake.
