• The industry refers to the economic activity concerned with producing goods, extraction of minerals, or service provision.
• Industries depend on the nature of the raw material they use. They may be agro-based, mineral-based, marine-based, and forest-based.
• Based on the size, industries can be classified into small scale and large-scale industries.
• Industries can be classified into the private and state-owned or public sectors, the joint sector, and the cooperative sector.
• Emerging industries are also known as Sunrise Industries. These include the industries in Information technology, Wellness, Hospitality, and Education technology.
• About one-third of the Indian textile industry's total production is exported.
• The information technology industry revolves around the storage, processing, and distribution of information.
