NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Social Science Civics Chapter 4:Understanding Laws

In this chapter, students are made aware of the importance of law. It also focuses on the changing trend and needs of society. Students should make a note of the following points while dealing with this chapter. The following point contain a brief overview of the chapter:

• Law is the set of rules governing any given boundary. It is an integral part of everyone who resides inside those boundaries.
• The law is equal, and it cannot discriminate between people based on their religion, caste, or gender.
• Law provides people with a sense of security from arbitrary behaviour of different sections of people. Law governs, protects, and provides a sense of security to people.
• The parliament frames derive their legitimacy from the constitution and are the body that brings new laws in the country.
• The Judiciary protects the rights of the people and punishes the ones who break the law. It also keeps a check on the power balance that the centre and states share.
• Unpopular and seditious laws are criticised by the people, whereas progressive and constructive laws are welcomed.
