NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Science Chapter 16: Water- A Precious Resource

Water is an important and essential resource on planet Earth. This chapter discusses the various forms in which water is present in the atmosphere, the water cycle, and how overexploitation of the resource can lead the world towards an inevitable crisis. The following are the points discussed in the chapter:

  • Water is essential for all living beings.
  • Water exists in three forms: solid, liquid and vapour.
  • There is an uneven distribution of water. Much of it has resulted from human activities.
  • Drip irrigation is a technique of watering plants by using narrow tubing that delivers water directly at the base of the plant. Groundwater can be extracted using water wells.
  • Rainwater can be used to recharge the groundwater. This is referred to as water harvesting.
  • An aquifer is an underground layer of water-bearing permeable rock, rock fracture or unconsolidated materials.
  • Unnecessary use of water and overdrawing from groundwater leads to depletion of the water table. Recharge of water to the ground should be increased.
