NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Science Chapter 2 Nutrition in Animals: In this chapter, students are provided with a detailed account of the different ways of ingesting food, the digestive system of the human body, digestion in grass-eating animals, and feeding and digestion in amoeba. Class 7 NCERT of Science bears new concepts in every chapter. Therefore, students are expected to grasp such basics better to understand the subject matter better. The following are the details in brief one gathers from the chapter:

  • Animal nutrition includes the nutrient requirement, mode of intake of food, and its utilisation in the body.
  • The modes of feeding vary in different organisms. Nutrition is a complex process involving: (i) Ingestion, (ii) Digestion, (iii) Absorption, (iv) Assimilation and (v) Egestion.
  • The human digestive system consists of the alimentary canal and secretory glands. Various digestive glands secrete digestive juices for the digestion of food in our body.
  • Water and some salts are absorbed from the undigested food in the large intestine. The undigested residues are expelled out of the body as faeces through the anus. The grazing animals like cows, buffaloes and deer are known as ruminants. They quickly ingest, swallow their leafy food and store it in the rumen.
  • Amoeba ingests its food with the help of its false feet or pseudopodia. The food is digested in the food vacuole.
