NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Science Chapter 9: Soil

The chapter discussed the various components of soil, soil formation, and the different types of soil. It also discusses how the surroundings where plants and animals live affect them. It also elaborates upon the fact as to how plants, animals, and microorganisms together constitute biotic components. The following are the points discussed in the chapter:

  • Soil is important for life on earth.
  • The soil profile is a section through different layers of the soil which are known horizons. Soil is of different types: clayey, loamy, and sandy.
  • Percolation rate of water is different in different types of soil.
  • The removal of land surface by water, wind, or ice is known as erosion. Erosion of soil is more severe in areas of little or no surface vegetation, such as desert or bare lands.
  • Plant roots firmly bind the soil. In the absence of plants, the soil becomes loose. So, cutting of trees and deforestation should be prevented, and effort should be made to increase the green areas.
