NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Science Chapter 14: Electric Current and its Effects

In this chapter, the reader gets to know further about the concepts of electricity and circuits. Class 6 had introduced the topic, whereas, in class 7, the concept is dealt with in great detail. Readers are advised to understand this chapter properly for a firm foundation of this chapter. Electricity and Circuits are further discussed in detail in the higher classes. The following are the points discussed in the chapter:
- An electric circuit can be represented by a circuit diagram.
- When an electric current flows through a wire, the wire gets heated. It is the heating effect of current.
- The ISI mark on the appliances ensures that the appliance is safe and wastage of energy is to a minimum.
- The heating effect of current has many applications. When an electric current flows through a wire, it behaves like a magnet.
- A current-carrying coil of an insulated wire wrapped around a piece of iron is called an electromagnet. Electromagnets are used in many devices such as the electric bell, toys, refrigerator, etc.
- Wires made from some special materials melt quickly and break when large electric currents are passed through them.
