The chapter explains various life processes that are required by organisms for the maintenance and proper functioning of the body. These processes form a basis of energy requirements. At first, the Science Chapter 6 Life Processes discusses Nutrition and various modes of nutrition in both plants and human beings. Nutrition can be defined as taking in food and utilizing it for energy requirements. There are two modes of nutrition in plants that are taught here are autotrophic nutrition and heterotrophic nutrition. Nutrition in human beings follows a series of sequential steps for the right mechanism of energy requirements.

Respiration is the oxidation reaction and mechanism of energy production aided by the intake of oxygen and the release of carbon dioxide. The chapter further discusses the Excretory system in both human beings and plants. Excretion is defined as the removal of harmful waste from the body. The excretory system of human beings includes - kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder and urethra. The urine formation comprises three steps: glomerular filtration, tubular reabsorption, and secretion. The excretion in plants takes place via stomata, transpiration, raisins and gums.
