NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Science Chapter 10 Light Reflection and Refraction

NCERT Solutions for Class 10 Science Chapter 10 Light Reflection and Refraction deals with the principles of light and its phenomena. Light is the essential factor of this world. Light makes it possible for human eyes to see the world around us. Various phenomena such as rainbows, images created by mirrors, and the twinkling of stars are seen due to the presence and manipulation of light. All these factors and phenomena are seen in this chapter. This chapter also introduces students to types of mirrors and lenses like concave, convex mirrors, concave and convex lenses, and the difference between concave and convex lens.

The phenomenon of reflection and refraction of light explained in Science Chapter 10, light reflection and refraction is based on the manipulation of straight traveling light waves due to the presence of objects. The reflection of light is seen due to the presence of a shiny reflecting surface on which light falls and bounces back, maintaining the same angle. Further changes in the shape and structure of this reflecting surface cause the light to change its direction depending upon the shape. Mirrors with straight surfaces and spherical mirrors determine the direction of the reflected light.

The Chapter further discusses more refraction of light. Refraction of light occurs when a translucent object comes in the path of the ray of light, causing the direction of the ray to change without bouncing back. This happens when a ray of light passes through an object with a high density of material. The same principle of refraction is used in the making of lenses for spectacles, where spherical translucent materials are used. This principle also helps in understanding the reason behind the twinkling of stars.

The phenomena of magnification of images are also possible because of these principles. Many of the phenomena related to light are possible because of the principles of reflection and refraction.
