Mensuration is the part of geometry concerned with ascertaining lengths, areas, and volumes. Perimeter is the distance covered along the boundary forming a closed figure when you go round the figure once Figures in which all sides and angles are equal are called regular closed figures. One must keep in mind that the topics of mathematics are interrelated and concepts learnt in junior class, or the previous chapter finds its usage in the upcoming chapter. Mensuration finds its direct application in everyday life chores such as measurement of the distance around a circular race track, the volume of soil needed to fill in a ditch, the amount of surface enclosed by a closed figure is called its area, amount of paint required to cover a particular surface area, fencing needed for the perimeter of a garden and even the amount of carpet required for a particular room and so on and so forth.
