NCERT Solutions for Class 6 Maths Chapter 12: Ratio Proportion

This chapter deals with a very important topic of mathematics, i.e., Ratio Proportion to the students of class 6. For comparing quantities of the same type, we commonly use the method of taking the difference between the quantities. This method is known as comparison by ratio. Four quantities are said to be in proportion if the ratio of the first and the second quantities is equal to the ratio of the third and the fourth quantities. This chapter focuses on the mathematical skills of the students of class 6. This chapter is a complicated version or next step after learning fractions for class 6. It was advised in the chapter of fractions to understand the topic well as it forms the ground for further elaborate chapters. Having done the chapter of Ratio Proportion students can understand further chapters like unitary method and profit and loss where Ratio Proportion finds extensive usage. The following are the new topics that are associated with the chapter of Ratio Proportion:

  • Ratio: This is basically the comparison of two quantities of which has been expressed as the fraction of the very same two quantities.
  • Properties associated with ratios
  • Proportion: This is defined as the condition when two ratios are equated.
  • Properties associated with the proportion
  • Unitary method: This is a method which first finds a unit value of a known entity and then finds the value of an associated entity by the simple operation of multiplication.
