NCERT Solutions for Class 6 Science Chapter 8: Body Movements

The chapter talks about various body movements that happen in our bodies while we write, stand, walk, or even move. It also discusses how animals move their arms, legs, and head. Then different parts of the body are assessed to identify which part moves up to what extent. The hand can rotate while the leg cannot. The science behind the bending of bones has been explained with the help of simple diagrams.
The further chapter states how joints help in the movement of the body and bones. Some major joints in our body and their location are mentioned. Parts of the Human skeletal system and muscles are depicted. In the end, the chapter gives an idea of the body movements of various living organisms like a snail.

  • The chapter begins with identifying body movements that take place in day-to-day life.
  • To explain briefly, the students are asked to observe how animals move and which of their body parts supports the movement
  • Certain body parts are confined to movement, while other parts move freely, just like the arm.
  • The table is used to mark the body parts that move freely and those parts that bend and help in body movement.
  • Joints play an important role in keeping our body intact.
  • The main joints in our body are Ball and Socket joints, Pivotal Joints, Hinge joints and fixed joints.
  • Skeletal system diagrams and pictures are used to describe the arrangement of bones.
  • Ribcage, Backbone, Pelvic bone, and Shoulder bones are clearly described in the chapter.
  • To further illustrate, the chapter discusses cartilage, which is the type of bone that is soft and also about muscles.
  • The example of different living organisms is shown to depict the skeletal system.
