NEET 2027 Exam Pattern

Since NEET UG 2025, the exam has been conducted with all 180 questions compulsory — NTA discontinued the earlier “Section A (compulsory) + Section B (choice-based)” structure that had been in place as a pandemic-era measure. This compulsory-questions format is expected to continue for NEET 2027.

Key Pattern Facts

• All 180 questions must be attempted — there is no internal choice or optional section.
• Each question carries 4 options; select the single correct/most appropriate answer.
• Exam duration is expected to be 3 hours (180 minutes), in line with the post-2025 format — note that the Re-NEET 2026 exam was run with an extra 15 minutes after NTA accepted a student representation; NTA has not confirmed whether this extension will carry over to NEET 2027.
• Biology remains the highest-weightage subject at 360 marks (50% of the paper), split evenly between Botany and Zoology.

NEET 2027 Eligibility Criteria

1. Age Limit

• Minimum age: 17 years by December 31 of the admission year
• Maximum age: No upper limit under current norms — confirm against the NEET 2027 bulletin once released, as this has been subject to legal challenges in the past

2. Academic Qualifications

Candidates must have passed Class 12 (or be appearing) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as a compulsory subject.

3. Number of Attempts

No cap on the number of attempts under current rules.

4. Nationality

Open to Indian nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and foreign nationals.

Programmes Offered Through NEET UG

NEET scores are currently accepted by roughly 542 medical colleges, 313 dental colleges, and 914 AYUSH colleges across India, along with all AIIMS and JIPMER campuses. The B.Sc (Hons) Nursing seat matrix is released closer to the counselling schedule each year.

NEET 2027 Syllabus

The NEET syllabus is based on the rationalised NCERT Class 11 and 12 curriculum, as prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC). NTA has not announced any new syllabus changes for NEET 2027 as of this writing — the core structure across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology is expected to remain consistent with recent cycles, though students should verify against the official syllabus PDF once NMC/NTA release it.

NEET Counselling Process

Rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and a Stray Vacancy Round (conducted at the institutional level for seats still vacant after the main rounds).

Process

1. Register on the MCC portal (mcc.nic.in) with NEET roll number, DOB, and email.
2. Pay the registration and security fee.
3. Fill and lock your college/course choices in order of preference.
4. Check the seat allotment result; download the provisional and final allotment letters.
5. Report to the allotted institute with original documents and complete admission formalities.
6. If unsatisfied with the allotment, participate in the next round rather than sitting out — an unfilled seat in an early round can't be reclaimed later.

Documents required: Admit card, scorecard, Class 10 & 12 mark sheets/certificates, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate (for state quota), a government photo ID, passport-size photographs, and the allotment letter.

NEET Tie-Breaking Criteria

When candidates score identically, NTA ranks them in this order:

1. Higher Biology marks (out of 360) — Biology carries the most weight, so it's the first tie-breaker.
2. Higher Chemistry marks (out of 180).
3. Higher Physics marks (out of 180).
4. Fewer incorrect answers overall (rewards accuracy over volume of attempts).
5. Older candidate (by date of birth) — used only if every other factor is identical.

No other factor — including Class 12 marks or gender — affects NEET ranking.

• NCERT should remain your primary source — the large majority of NEET questions are drawn directly from it.
• Since all 180 questions are now compulsory with no internal choice, build speed and accuracy equally across every chapter rather than skipping weaker topics, since there's no “opt out” of a hard question anymore.
• Weekly full-length mock tests, ideally in CBT format given the 2027 mode change, so exam-day navigation isn't unfamiliar.
• Regular NCERT-based revision, alongside previous-year question paper practice.

Adjusting for the CBT Transition

• Practice with on-screen mock tests that mirror the NTA interface (question palette, “Mark for Review,” Save & Next) rather than only paper-based practice tests.
• Time management shifts slightly in CBT — there's no flipping ahead through a physical booklet, so develop a subject-order strategy you can execute purely through on-screen navigation.
