About Defence Institute of Advanced Technology: Overview

DIAT, or the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, is a private institution in Pune that was founded in 1952. The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) have given DIAT Pune an A+. Defence Institute of Advanced Technology Admission Process

The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) offers admission to its postgraduate and doctoral programmes primarily for professionals engaged in defence-related fields. The process is structured to cater to the needs of the Armed Forces, DRDO, Defence PSUs, and other central/state government organisations working in the defence sector.

Admission Routes

• Sponsored Candidates (Majority Intake) Most admissions are for candidates sponsored/nominated by their parent organisations. This route applies to defence personnel, DRDO scientists, PSU engineers, and government officers.
• Scholarship (GATE) Candidates – Limited Seats Certain M.Tech programmes are also open to GATE-qualified civilian candidates. These students are eligible for scholarships as per prevailing government norms and must complete a mandatory 4-week Practice School during summer vacation.

Eligibility Criteria

• M.Tech: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering/technology discipline from a recognised university, meeting the minimum marks requirement specified by DIAT.
• Ph.D.: Master’s degree in the relevant field.
• For scholarship seats, a valid GATE score is mandatory.
• For sponsored seats, the candidate must be formally nominated by their organisation.

Selection Process

• Sponsored Candidates: Selection is based on academic qualifications, relevant work experience, and, where applicable, a departmental interview.
• GATE Scholarship Candidates: Selection is merit-based, using the GATE score as the primary criterion, with possible interviews for final assessment.

• Monthly Scholarship: All students admitted under the Scholarship Category are eligible to receive ₹12,400 per month as per the AICTE’s Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, for the duration of the M.Tech programme.
• Contingency Grant: In addition, scholarship students are entitled to a contingency grant of ₹5,000 per year (amount subject to institute decisions). Any unused portion of the grant cannot be carried forward to the next academic year.
