Birla Institute of Technology: Overview

Established in 1955, it started as a consultancy project of the industrialist Raja Baldeo Singh of Mauria. BIT is a deemed-to-be university affiliated particularly with scientific, engineering, and management education. The Birla Institute of Technology Mesra Admission Process 2025: 

How to Apply:

  • All applications are to be submitted online through the website of BITS Mesra. 
  • Select the courses you favour and proceed to fill out the application form with all the necessary personal and academic details correctly. 
  • Make sure to fill out and submit your application form before the deadline. The application fee is INR 500 for General and INR 300 for SC/ST/OBC/PT candidates.

Selection Process:

Depending on the course that you have chosen, the following may apply to you: 

  • An entrance test (say, JEE Main, CAT, GATE, etc.), WAT (Writing Ability Test), and the PI (Personal Interview) round.
  • After completion of all the tests and interviews, BITS Mesra shall declare its merit list on its official website, and if your name appears on this list, you shall be called for the WAT-PI rounds (unless you have already attended them).
  • On successful selection, candidates have to pay the admission fees to secure their seats. Submit your documents for verification, such as mark-sheets, ID Proof, etc. 
  • Once all is done, admissions are confirmed, and one can look forward to joining the classes.

Campus Life, Infrastructure, and Facilities at Birla Institute of Technology

Birla Institute of Technology has a lively campus offering various amenities such as a library, hostels, sports, and fitness centres. It is also equipped with efficient security for safety at all times.

Hostels: At BIT, students are lodged in separate hostels, with 11 for boys and 3 for girls. There are dining halls in each hostel, along with reading rooms and common rooms with indoor games. Other entertainment is provided, along with a TV. Each hostel is equipped with a mess for its students. The campus of about 5000 population also has a shopping complex housing eateries, salons, stationery shops, tailors, and places where people can congregate and relax.

Library: The Central Library at BIT was established in 1955. Students, faculty, and staff have access to both print and online resources on various subjects, including science, engineering, pharmacy, management, and hotel management. The library has facilities for accessing the internet, online journals, and databases via networked computers. Fully automated with RFID using KOHA software, the library provides CD-ROM search, OPAC, and Web OPAC facilities.

Sports grounds: The 24-acre sports complex on the institute, used by the campus students for fitness, recreation, and social occasions, comprises a large number of amenities, including a 400-meter athletic track, indoor badminton courts, basketball and football grounds, a gym hall, a modern multi-gym, a cricket ground, etc. 

The Inter-hostel tournaments and Annual Athletic Meet are held by the Department of Physical Education, and it also prepares teams for several competitions. The institute also hosts the Vajra sports festival and the Chetan Devraj East Zone Cricket Tournament for Technical Colleges.

Health Centre: BIT Dispensary is a 20-bed health care centre that includes two 8-bed isolation wards. It caters to students, faculty, and staff members; their families and the nearby villagers. The dispensary is operational 24 hours, including Sundays and all holidays, taking care of OPD, IPD, and emergency cases. There are five allopathic doctors, one homoeopathic doctor, and 20 paramedical staff. 

There are weekly visits from specialist doctors, e.g., dentist, physiotherapist, eye, skin, and gynaecologist. Since the doctors and paramedics are limited, new ones are still being recruited. Serious cases are referred to multispecialty hospitals, while the Mediclaim policy covers every student and staff (plus two children).
