Hostels: At BIT, students are lodged in separate hostels, with 11 for boys and 3 for girls. There are dining halls in each hostel, along with reading rooms and common rooms with indoor games. Other entertainment is provided, along with a TV. Each hostel is equipped with a mess for its students. The campus of about 5000 population also has a shopping complex housing eateries, salons, stationery shops, tailors, and places where people can congregate and relax.
Library: The Central Library at BIT was established in 1955. Students, faculty, and staff have access to both print and online resources on various subjects, including science, engineering, pharmacy, management, and hotel management. The library has facilities for accessing the internet, online journals, and databases via networked computers. Fully automated with RFID using KOHA software, the library provides CD-ROM search, OPAC, and Web OPAC facilities.
Sports grounds: The 24-acre sports complex on the institute, used by the campus students for fitness, recreation, and social occasions, comprises a large number of amenities, including a 400-meter athletic track, indoor badminton courts, basketball and football grounds, a gym hall, a modern multi-gym, a cricket ground, etc.
The Inter-hostel tournaments and Annual Athletic Meet are held by the Department of Physical Education, and it also prepares teams for several competitions. The institute also hosts the Vajra sports festival and the Chetan Devraj East Zone Cricket Tournament for Technical Colleges.
Health Centre: BIT Dispensary is a 20-bed health care centre that includes two 8-bed isolation wards. It caters to students, faculty, and staff members; their families and the nearby villagers. There are five allopathic doctors, one homoeopathic doctor, and 20 paramedical staff.
There are weekly visits from specialist doctors, e.g., dentist, physiotherapist, eye, skin, and gynaecologist. Since the doctors and paramedics are limited, new ones are still being recruited. Serious cases are referred to multispecialty hospitals, while the Mediclaim policy covers every student and staff (plus two children).
There are scholarships and fee waivers offered to needy students by BIT. These are awarded based on financial requirements and academic achievements.
A student from any part of India can apply for admission to BIT Mesra. However, seat reservation may apply for a few courses on a State Quota basis.
Such internships are not necessarily mandatory but highly recommended, as they lend the student a certain amount of practical exposure to the industry and increase his/her chances of finding a job.
