About Annamalai University: Overview

Annamalai University was established in 1929. It is located in Annamalainagar, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. It is one of the largest and oldest universities in South India. It is spread over an area of 1000 acres, which comprises 49 study departments with 10 faculties and 81 affiliated colleges. The university also offers a distance education mode. The programmes offered by the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) are approved and accredited by the Distance Education Board (DEB). The university lies within the range of 151-200 under the Overall category of the NIRF ranking 2024. In 2022, the University was accredited with an ‘A+’ Grade by NAAC.

Annamalai University Admission Process

The following steps are to be followed to complete the admission process:

• Registration: Candidates register using email ID and phone number.
• Application Form: Fill in personal and academic details; upload documents.
• Eligibility: 50% marks in qualifying exam (45% for SC/ST). PG programs require relevant bachelor’s degree.
• Selection Procedure: Mostly merit-based; Tamil Nadu reservation rules apply. Some courses require tests/interviews.
• Counselling: Shortlisted students attend counselling; seats allotted.
• Document Submission: Send printed application & documents to the university.

Annamalai University Placements

Annamalai University Placements are conducted by the AU Placement Cell. The 2024 placement details are yet to be declared. The NIRF report gives placement details for 2023:

Scholarships and Financial Aid at Annamalai University

The university offers financial support to candidates. They provide the following scholarships:

• First Graduate Tuition Fee Concession - This scholarship is provided to a candidate who should be a first-generation graduate in the family and whose annual family income should be less than Rs. 2,50,000.
• Post Matric Scholarship - This is a government-funded scholarship and includes SC, SCA, ST, and converted Christians. SC, SCA, and ST candidates should have an annual family income of less than Rs. 2,50,000 and SC, SCA converted Christians with an annual parental income of less than Rs. 2,00,000.
• Higher Education Special Scholarship - This scholarship is provided to only SC, SCA, ST, and converted Christian groups who reside in hostels. Their total annual income should be less than Rs. 2,00,000.
• BC/MBC/DNC Categories Scholarship - This scholarship is for candidates belonging to BC/MBC/DNC categories, and their parents' or guardians' total annual income should be less than Rs. 2,00,000.

The university accepts various examinations for admission to UG and PG courses. For BE courses, admission is based on TNEA ranks. For MD/MS/PG Diploma, NEET PG ranks are considered.

• Hostels - There are independent hostels for boys and girls with facilities for single or shared rooms. • Library - The library stocks more than 572,000 printed volumes in different subjects like science, arts, languages, and special collections. Interestingly, it is a complete depository library for World Bank publications and has received comprehensive collections since 1986. The library also has a thesis section with more than 11,700 M.Phil. and PhD theses. An Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility is provided by the library so that users can quickly search for books and journals.
