NEET SS Full Form and Overview

NEET SS, or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Super Speciality, is a national-level exam in India for doctors who want to study further in super speciality fields like Cardiology, Neurology, Surgery, and more. It is held by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).

The exam is done online on a computer, in English only, and lasts for 2 hours and 30 minutes. It has 150 multiple-choice questions, and students get marks for right answers and lose marks for wrong ones.

Doctors choose the exam based on their earlier specialisation (like Medicine, Paediatrics, etc.), and questions are asked from related topics. This exam is the only way to get admission into DM, MCh, or DrNB courses in India.

The NEET SS 2025 exam was held on March 29 and 30, as per NBEMS. Results came out on April 25, and counselling began soon after. Now the final “stray vacancy” round of counselling is open from July 24 via MCC’s official portal for filling leftover seats.

NEET SS Application Process

Only those candidates who fulfil the eligibility standards as laid out by the NBEMS can apply for NEET SS 2025. To apply for NEET SS 2025, you had to follow four easy steps:

  1. Registration

Go to nbe.edu.in, select NEET SS 2025, and click on the “New Registration” icon. Then fill in your:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender, nationality
  • Mobile number and email ID

After submitting, you will get a User ID and password on your phone and email.

  1. Fill the Application Form

Log in using your User ID and password. Click on "Go to application form" and enter:

  • Your parents' names, ID proof, and address
  • Education details (UG & PG degrees and medical registration info)
  • Preferred exam centre
  1. Upload Images

Upload scanned copies of:

  • Passport-size photo
  • Signature
  • Thumb impression

Make sure the images are clear and the correct size.

  1. Pay the fees: Pay the exam fee online.
  2. Take the printout: After successful submission of the NEET SS application form, you must take the printout of the confirmation page displayed on the screen.

Application Fee for NEET SS 2025

  • The NEET SS 2025 examination price is ₹3,500, irrespective of their category. 

Note: if a candidate chooses to appear for both Medical and Paediatric groups, the total fee payable will be ₹7,000.

  • The fee must be paid online via the payment gateway using a credit card, debit card, or other available modes.
  • Offline payments are not accepted.
  • No refund, adjustment, or carry forward of the fee will be allowed under any circumstances- even if the candidate is absent or found ineligible.
  • Application forms, once submitted, cannot be withdrawn or edited for a reimbursement claim.
  • Candidates are strongly advised to check the eligibility standards in the legitimate statistics bulletin before making the payment.

NEET SS Eligibility Criteria 

To appear for NEET SS 2025, candidates ought to fulfil the following eligibility conditions:

  • Registration Certification and Degree: NEET SS requires candidates to hold a provisional or permanent registration certificate issued by the Medical Council of India (MCI) or State Medical Council (SMC) after completing their postgraduate medical qualification (MD/MS/DNB). 
  • NRIs & MCI Registration: Non-Resident Indian candidates must be registered with the appropriate medical authority in their respective countries and must also submit MCI registration for NEET SS.
  • Temporary Registration for Foreign Nationals: Foreign medical graduates are eligible for temporary registration, valid only for the duration of their postdoctoral course. This registration is limited to the specific institution where they secure admission.

NEET SS Exam Pattern Overview

  • The exam is conducted by NBEMS in a Computer-Based (online) mode.
  • NEET SS is group-based, with each group having its own paper (e.g., General Medicine Group, General Surgery Group, Paediatrics Group, and so forth).
  • A candidate can select any super speciality based on their feeder broad speciality (like MD/MS/DNB).
  • Each group has a single paper with 3 sections (Section A, B, C).
  • Each section consists of 50 MCQs and is time-limited to 50 minutes (Total: one hundred fifty questions in one hundred fifty minutes).
  • You cannot revisit or change answers once a section ends.
  • All questions are from the PG Exit-level curriculum of the feeder broad speciality.
  • Marking Scheme:
    • +4 marks for correct answer
