The Armed Forces Medical College also referred to as AFMC, is one of its kind, being the first university in any Asian country to be set up by an Armed Force. It was established in the year 1948 on 1st May in Pune with the aim of combining medical education with training in the Armed Forces, specifically for health care needs.
