FAQs on JEE Main Marks vs Percentile
Students preparing for JEE are often confused about the marks vs percentile vs ranks. The JEE scorecard released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) mentions the scores in the form of percentile. The JEE Main percentile scores mentioned on the scorecard are not the actual marks but the normalized marks of candidates. The normalization process is conducted to remove any possible parity in the difficulty level of the JEE Main question paper as the JEE Main exam is held in several shifts over a few days.
NTA has mentioned the normalization process to be used for calculating the percentile score in JEE Main results on their official website. NTA basically converts the raw marks obtained in JEE Main by any candidate into a percentile score to prepare the JEE Main scorecard. Candidates have also been provided with a formula for the calculation of marks vs percentile in JEE Main to help estimate their most probable ranks easily. However, students must note that the actual percentile and ranks are to be mentioned in JEE Main 2023 result card only.
The JEE Main normalisation concept ensures that all students have a fair score for the JEE Main result. In the JEE Main normalisation process, NTA uses a formula to calculate the percentile score in total for each subject.
The JEE Main Percentile Scores are calculated up to 7 decimal places to avoid ties.
The JEE Mains Percentile score of a Candidate is calculated as follows: 100 X Number of candidates who appeared in the session with a raw score equal to or less than the students divided by the total number of the students who appeared in the session.
