How Admission Works
B.Tech seats go through JoSAA first. Whatever stays empty after the last JoSAA round goes to the university’s own entrance test. M.Tech is split down the middle between CCMT and that test. Every other course, from the diplomas to MCA, admits through the entrance test alone.
Getting a B.Tech seat
- Write JEE Main and register for JoSAA counselling at josaa.nic.in.
- During choice filling, add the B.Tech CSE (AI and ML) seat at NIELIT Imphal. You’ll find it in the Other GFTIs list.
- Once allotted, report to the campus and pay the first instalment of the semester fee.
- Missed out in JoSAA? If seats are left, register on the university’s admission portal and take the entrance test.
M.Tech, diploma and the rest
Fifteen of the 30 M.Tech AI seats are filled through CCMT on GATE score. The other 15 open up after CCMT ends, through the entrance test.
In 2026, registration for B.Tech, MCA and PG Diploma stayed open from March 27 to June 12 (MCA and PG Diploma also had a second round, June 22 to July 17). Diploma and BCA ran in two rounds: the first closed on May 20, the second ran from May 27 to June 12.
Expect the 2027-28 window to open around late March 2027 if the university follows last year’s schedule.
NIELIT Imphal Fee Structure 2026-27
There’s no separate fee list for Imphal. One fee order for 2026-27 covers every campus of the university. You pay each semester in two instalments. Semester I is the heaviest because it carries a Rs 5,000 admission fee and a Rs 5,000 security deposit on top.
| Programme | Tuition per semester | Year 1 | Full programme |
| B.Tech (8 semesters) | Rs 50,000 | Rs 1,20,000 | Rs 4,50,000 |
| M.Tech (4 semesters) | Rs 60,000 | Rs 1,40,000 | Rs 2,70,000 |
| Diploma (6 semesters) | Rs 27,000 | Rs 74,000 | Rs 2,02,000 |
| MCA / M.Sc. (4 semesters) | Rs 32,000 | Rs 84,000 | Rs 1,58,000 |
| BCA | Rs 30,000 | Rs 80,000 | Not calculated |
| B.Sc. / PGDCA | Rs 25,000 | Rs 70,000 | Not calculated |
Here’s how Semester I adds up: Rs 5,000 admission fee, Rs 5,000 security deposit, Rs 5,000 academic fee, the tuition, and a Rs 2,500 exam fee. After that, odd semesters charge the Rs 5,000 academic fee again. Even semesters are just tuition plus exam fee.
Pay the first instalment by the day you report. Pay late and it costs you: Rs 1,000 extra within 15 days, Rs 2,000 within 30.
SC/ST students don’t pay tuition or exam fees, as per Government of India rules. Hostel and mess are a separate bill, set by each campus. Imphal hasn’t put its hostel fee on the university website, so ask the campus office before you budget.
