About IIIT Pune

Indian Institute of Information Technology Pune, commonly known as IIIT Pune or IIITP, is an Institute of National Importance established in 2016. The institute was set up by the Ministry of Education, Government of India under the Public-Private Partnership model.

IIIT Pune focuses primarily on information technology, computer science, electronics and emerging technology areas. It offers B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD programmes and has developed a strong academic focus around artificial intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, electronics, VLSI and related fields.

One of the biggest changes at IIIT Pune in 2026 is the expansion of its undergraduate programme structure. Until the previous admission cycle, IIIT Pune was mainly known for its B.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering.

For 2026-27, the JoSAA seat matrix lists five B.Tech programmes:

IIIT Pune Campus & Hostel Facilities

IIIT Pune now operates from its permanent campus at Nanoli near Talegaon in Pune district. The Government of Maharashtra allotted approximately 100 acres of land for the institute. The campus is surrounded by the Sahyadri ranges and has been developed as a residential academic campus.

Talegaon Railway Station is around 5 km from the institute. Pune city is approximately 35 km away, Pimpri-Chinchwad is about 20 km away and Pune International Airport is around 40 km from campus.

Because of the one-time caution deposit, the first-semester hostel-related payment comes to approximately ₹67,510. From the second semester onward, the same structure without the one-time caution deposit comes to approximately ₹57,510 per semester.

Rooms are furnished with facilities such as bunk beds, chairs, cupboards and study tables. RO drinking water and mess facilities are also available in the hostel.

Mess

The hostel has mess facilities for students living on campus. The current mess advance is ₹20,000 per semester. The final food cost depends on the mess arrangement during the semester.

Dining facilities are available within the campus for residential students.

Sports and Fitness

IIIT Pune has sports grounds and dedicated gym facilities for boys and girls. Students can participate in indoor and outdoor sports along with physical training and yoga.

B.Tech Programmes

IIIT Pune offers five four-year B.Tech programmes for the 2026-27 academic session.

B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering

Computer Science and Engineering is the largest programme at IIIT Pune with 326 seats.

The course covers the core areas of computer science including:

B.Tech Cyber Security

IIIT Pune introduced Cyber Security as a separate B.Tech programme in the 2026 admission cycle.

The programme has 65 JoSAA-listed seats.

Along with the foundations of computer science, the curriculum focuses on cybersecurity-related areas such as information security, network security, cryptography, system security, digital forensics and secure computing.

The programme is aimed at students interested in software and computer systems with a stronger emphasis on security.

B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering

Electronics and Communication Engineering has 119 seats.

The programme covers subjects related to electronics, digital systems, communication engineering, signal processing, microprocessors, embedded systems, VLSI and wireless communication.

ECE students can move towards semiconductor, electronics, embedded systems, communication or software-oriented careers depending on their projects and electives.

B.Tech Microelectronics and VLSI Design

Microelectronics and VLSI Design is another new programme introduced in the 2026 seat matrix.

The programme has 65 JoSAA-listed seats.

It focuses on semiconductor technology, electronic devices, integrated circuits, digital and analog electronics, microelectronics and VLSI design.

The course is particularly relevant to students interested in chip design, semiconductor systems and electronics hardware.

IIIT Pune B.Tech Seats 2026

The 2026 JoSAA seat matrix gives IIIT Pune a total B.Tech intake of 674 seats.

CSE accounts for almost half of the total B.Tech intake. IIIT Pune also has female-only supernumerary seats across all five programmes.

M.Tech Programmes at IIIT Pune

IIIT Pune offers postgraduate engineering programmes through its CSE and ECE departments.

The current M.Tech specialisations include:

M.Tech CSE – Artificial Intelligence

The programme focuses on advanced computer science and artificial intelligence. Students can study areas such as machine learning, AI, deep learning, data analytics, algorithms and advanced computing.

The course duration is two years, consisting of coursework followed by research/project work.

M.Tech ECE – VLSI Design

The ECE M.Tech programme specialises in VLSI Design. It covers areas such as electronic circuit design, integrated circuits, semiconductor systems, VLSI architecture and advanced electronics.

Regular GATE-qualified students can enter through CCMT, whereas IIIT Pune also conducted institute-level M.Tech admission for vacant seats in 2026.

For the 2026 institute-level admission round, 24 seats were advertised in Artificial Intelligence and 10 seats in VLSI Design.

Both GATE and non-GATE candidates could apply for the institute-level route. Students admitted through the institute’s non-scholarship route do not receive the GATE scholarship. GATE-qualified candidates admitted through the regular CCMT route are eligible for the standard GATE scholarship of ₹12,400 per month.

PhD Programmes at IIIT Pune

IIIT Pune offers regular and part-time PhD programmes. Research areas are available through Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Applied Sciences and Humanities.

CSE research areas include:

ECE research areas include:

IIIT Pune Eligibility Criteria

B.Tech Eligibility

B.Tech admission to IIIT Pune is based on JEE Main. Candidates need to pass Class 12 or an equivalent qualifying examination with the subjects required for B.E./B.Tech admission.

• For admission through the NIT+ system, candidates need either: at least 75% aggregate marks in Class 12, or a place within the category-wise top 20 percentile of their board.
• For SC, ST and PwD candidates, the minimum Class 12 aggregate requirement is 65%.
• Students must also qualify JEE Main and secure a rank within the cutoff for the programme and category during JoSAA or CSAB counselling.

There is no separate IIIT Pune entrance examination for B.Tech admission.

M.Tech Eligibility

The minimum eligibility for M.Tech depends on the selected specialisation.

• For M.Tech CSE – Artificial Intelligence, accepted backgrounds include B.E./B.Tech in areas such as CSE, IT, ECE, EE and EEE, along with eligible M.Sc or MCA qualifications.

• For M.Tech ECE – VLSI Design, eligible backgrounds include ECE, EE, EEE, Electronics and Instrumentation, CSE, IT, Mechatronics and related degrees.

Candidates generally require at least:

• 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10-point scale.
• SC, ST and PwD candidates receive the prescribed relaxation of 5% marks or 0.5 CGPA.
• Regular GATE candidates can apply through CCMT.

Institute-level M.Tech seats use the institute’s own written test and/or interview process.

PhD Eligibility

PhD applicants need a relevant qualifying degree in the research area for which they apply.

• Depending on the admission route, candidates may be selected through a written examination, interview and national-level qualifications such as GATE or NET.

IIIT Pune Admission Process 2026-27

B.Tech Admission

IIIT Pune B.Tech admission takes place through JEE Main and JoSAA.

Step 1: Appear for JEE Main

Students first appear for JEE Main Paper 1 for admission to B.E./B.Tech programmes.

JEE Main results provide candidates with their percentile and All India Rank.

Step 3: Register for JoSAA

IIIT Pune has five separate choices in the 2026 counselling system: IIIT Pune CSE, IIIT Pune Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, IIIT Pune Cyber Security, IIIT Pune ECE and IIIT Pune Microelectronics and VLSI Design.

Step 4: Choice Filling

Students arrange programmes according to their preferred order. Each branch is treated as a separate counselling choice.

Step 5: Seat Allotment

Seats are allotted on the basis of JEE Main rank, category, gender seat pool, programme preference and seat availability. JoSAA conducted five regular rounds in 2026.

Step 6: Seat Acceptance and Verification

Candidates receiving an allotment complete online reporting, pay the required counselling fee and submit documents for verification.

Step 7: Physical Reporting

For the 2026-27 batch, physical reporting at IIIT Pune took place from August 13 to August 18, 2026. Classes for newly admitted students began from August 19, 2026.

CSAB Special Rounds

Vacant seats after the regular JoSAA process move to CSAB Special Rounds. CSAB allows students another opportunity to apply for programmes where seats remain after JoSAA.

DASA Admission

IIIT Pune also accepts eligible international and NRI-category students through DASA. DASA admission for B.Tech is based on JEE Main according to the rules applicable to international admissions. Students admitted through DASA complete physical reporting at the same permanent campus and can apply for hostel accommodation.

M.Tech Admission Process

Regular M.Tech admission takes place through GATE and CCMT. Students with a valid GATE score register for CCMT, fill their programme choices, and participate in centralised seat allocation.

After regular admissions, the institute can also advertise vacant seats through its own admission process. For the 2026 institute-level admission round, candidates applied for Artificial Intelligence and VLSI Design and were selected through a written test and/or interview.
