About IIIT Sri City

Indian Institute of Information Technology Sri City, commonly known as IIIT Sri City or IIITS, is an Institute of National Importance established in 2013. The institute was set up by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, along with the Government of Andhra Pradesh and industry partners represented by the Sri City Foundation under the Public-Private Partnership model.

Academically, IIIT Sri City has built its programmes around computer science, electronics, artificial intelligence, data science and technology-led research. It currently offers three four-year B.Tech programmes: Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

The undergraduate intake has expanded significantly over the years. For the 2026-27 admission cycle, IIIT Sri City has 438 B.Tech seats, including female-only supernumerary seats. CSE is the largest programme with 276 seats, followed by ECE with 96 and Artificial Intelligence and Data Science with 66.

The institute also offers postgraduate and research opportunities through M.Tech, MS by Research and PhD programmes. A newer online M.Tech structure has been introduced in areas such as Cyber Security, IoT and Autonomous Systems, and VLSI.

Academic Infrastructure

The main academic building houses classrooms, faculty offices, laboratories, research spaces and the library. Large classrooms have projectors, whiteboards and other teaching facilities, while software and hardware laboratories support practical coursework.

A notable feature of the academic setup is the opportunity for undergraduate students to participate in research. Library

Hostel

Mess & Dining

Dining facilities are available within the campus for residential students. The mess serves regular meals and operates as part of the residential setup for both boys and girls. The current mess fee is ₹22,000 per semester.

The academic infrastructure includes a student activity space known as The Hub. It provides working space for the Student Council and student clubs and acts as a centre for activities beyond classroom academics. The campus also has gym facilities for students.

B.Tech Programmes

IIIT Sri City offers three four-year B.Tech programmes through JEE Main and JoSAA counselling.

B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering

The course explores the foundations of computer science along with modern applications and concepts around AI, computer vision, cybersecurity, and more. This allows students to retain the broad foundation of a conventional CSE degree while gradually moving towards areas that match their academic or career interests.

Research is also integrated into the academic environment. Undergraduate students can work with faculty members on technical and research-oriented projects.

B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

The programme combines the foundations of computer science with mathematics, statistics, machine learning and data-oriented computation. Students still develop core programming and algorithmic skills, but a greater part of the curriculum is directed towards understanding data, building predictive models and developing intelligent systems.

B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering

The programme covers electronic circuits, digital systems, signals and systems, communication engineering, microprocessors, embedded systems and other electronics-focused subjects. M.Tech Programmes

M.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

The regular M.Tech in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is a two-year postgraduate programme offered through the Computer Science and Engineering department.

The programme is designed to provide a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence than students would normally receive through a general undergraduate computing degree. The curriculum covers both the theoretical foundations of AI and the practical methods used to design intelligent systems.

M.Tech in Cyber Security

The programme focuses on securing software, computer systems, networks and digital infrastructure. Students build on their computing foundations while studying the technical and analytical methods used to identify vulnerabilities, investigate attacks, and design secure systems.

It is aimed at students interested in careers in cybersecurity engineering, security research, digital forensics, secure software development, network security and related areas.

Online M.Tech in Cyber Security

Unlike the regular residential M.Tech, the online programme has been designed especially for working professionals who want postgraduate training while remaining employed. Classes and interactive sessions are generally scheduled during evenings or weekends.

The programme develops advanced knowledge of cybersecurity while allowing professionals to apply what they learn directly within their current technical roles. GATE is not compulsory for admission to the online programme.

Most academic components, including classes, assignments and examinations, are completed online. Short campus visits may be required where laboratory sessions, demonstrations or project requirements make physical participation useful.

Online M.Tech in IoT and Autonomous Systems

MS by Research in Computer Science and Engineering

The CSE MS by Research programme covers research problems across computer science and related computational areas.

The exact specialisation is not fixed as a small set of named degree tracks. Instead, students work on a research topic aligned with the expertise of an available faculty supervisor. Areas can include artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, computer vision, cybersecurity, algorithms, systems and other computing fields.

MS by Research in Electronics and Communication Engineering

The ECE MS by Research programme follows a similar research-driven structure. Students can work in areas related to electronics, communication systems, signal processing, embedded systems, IoT, microelectronics, VLSI and other fields represented by faculty research at the institute.

PhD Programmes

PhD in Computer Science and Engineering

The CSE PhD programme covers a broad range of computing research including artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, data analytics, cybersecurity, distributed systems, networks, software systems and related fields represented by current faculty research.

PhD in Electronics and Communication Engineering

The ECE PhD programme supports research in areas such as communication systems, signal processing, wireless technologies, embedded systems, IoT, electronics, microelectronics and VLSI.

PhD in Mathematics & Data Science

IIIT Sri City also offers doctoral research in Mathematics & Data Science. This programme is suited to students interested in mathematical research as well as areas where mathematics, statistics and computation come together.

Full-Time and Part-Time PhD

The full-time PhD route is designed for candidates whose primary activity will be research at IIIT Sri City. Scholars work with a faculty supervisor, complete required coursework, undergo regular progress reviews and eventually submit a doctoral thesis.

The part-time PhD route is designed particularly for working professionals from technology companies, multinational organisations and government research institutions such as DRDO and ISRO. Applicants must have a relevant academic background along with the required professional experience and employer permissions.

IIIT Sri City Eligibility Criteria

B.Tech Eligibility

B.Tech admission is based on JEE Main followed by JoSAA counselling. Candidates must pass Class 12 or an equivalent qualifying examination with the subjects required for B.E./B.Tech admission.

Students entering the NIT+ system must either obtain at least 75% aggregate marks in Class 12 or fall within the category-wise top 20 percentile of their board. For SC, ST and PwD candidates, the minimum aggregate requirement is 65%.

Once these academic conditions are met, admission depends on the candidate’s JEE Main rank, category, programme preference and availability of seats. Keep in mind that there is no Andhra Pradesh home-state quota. JoSAA seats are allotted through the All India pool.

M.Tech Eligibility

Students with a valid GATE score can seek regular M.Tech admission through the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech, or CCMT. These candidates follow the eligibility and seat-allotment conditions applicable through CCMT.

IIIT Sri City also has a non-GATE admission route. Candidates graduating from Centrally Funded Technical Institutions can be considered on the basis of their previous academic performance. Applicants from this route with a CGPA of at least 8.0 are screened before appearing for a coding test and interview.

Online M.Tech Eligibility

From 2026, IIIT Sri City also offers online M.Tech programmes in three areas:

• Cyber Security
• IoT and Autonomous Systems
• VLSI

These programmes are structured differently from the conventional residential M.Tech and are particularly suited to working professionals.

Applicants can hold a B.Tech, B.E., B.S., M.Tech, M.Sc., MCA, MS or another equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. The normal minimum requirement is 55% marks or a CPI/CGPA of 5.5 out of 10.

GATE is not mandatory for the online M.Tech route. For applicants with MCA or M.Sc. qualifications, the postgraduate marks are considered during eligibility assessment. For B.E. or B.Tech graduates without a later postgraduate specialisation, the undergraduate score is used.

MS by Research Eligibility

IIIT Sri City currently accepts MS by Research applications in areas connected with Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Mathematics & Data Science.

MS by Research in Computer Science and Engineering

Applicants can qualify through a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology, or another equivalent engineering qualification, with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA.

Students from non-engineering academic backgrounds can also be eligible if they have a relevant master’s degree. Accepted areas include Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Electronic Science, Computer Science, Computer Applications and Information Technology, along with related subjects where the student has a strong background in mathematics and programming.

MS by Research in Electronics and Communication Engineering

Applicants can enter through a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology with at least first-class performance, normally 60% or above, or an equivalent CGPA.

Candidates with relevant master’s degrees in subjects such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Electronic Science, Information Technology or closely related areas can also be considered.

Selection Process

Admission is based on the institute’s own written test and interview.

A valid GATE score can strengthen an application, but GATE alone does not guarantee admission. The institute evaluates whether the candidate has the background and research potential required for the proposed area.

Programme Structure

The MS by Research programme normally requires a minimum of four semesters and is designed to be completed in around two years.

The coursework component is relatively compact. Students typically complete Research Methodology along with a small number of core or elective courses recommended for their research area, after which most of the programme is devoted to research.

Students work under a faculty guide and an MS Scrutiny Committee that periodically reviews their progress.

PhD Eligibility

The exact eligibility depends on the department and whether the applicant is entering through a postgraduate qualification or a direct-PhD route.

Full-Time PhD

For the current full-time PhD admission framework, applicants can qualify through a relevant master’s degree completed after at least five years of higher education following Class 12.

Candidates in the General, EWS and OBC categories normally need at least 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA, while SC, ST and PwD applicants receive the prescribed relaxation.

IIIT Sri City also provides a route for strong candidates entering after a four-year bachelor’s degree. In the current 2026 rolling admission framework, such candidates generally need at least 70% marks or 7.5 CGPA, along with a suitable academic and research background.

For Mathematics and Data Science, applicants normally need bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mathematics, Statistics or an equivalent discipline, along with the required academic performance. A valid score in examinations such as GATE, CSIR/UGC-NET/JRF, NBHM or INSPIRE can also form part of the eligibility requirements.

Direct PhD After B.Tech

IIIT Sri City also allows particularly strong engineering graduates to be considered for direct PhD admission without first completing an M.Tech.

This route is meant for applicants with an excellent academic record and demonstrated research potential. Departmental rules have allowed candidates from CFTIs, Institutes of National Importance or highly ranked institutions with a strong B.Tech CGPA and evidence such as research papers, intellectual property or other research outputs to be considered.

This is therefore not simply an alternative for avoiding a master’s degree. The direct-PhD route is aimed at students who already show clear research ability at the undergraduate level.

IIIT Sri City Admission Process 2026-27

Admission to IIIT Sri City works differently at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and research levels. Here’s what it looks like for different programs:

B.Tech Admission

Admission to the B.Tech programmes in Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and Electronics and Communication Engineering is based on JEE Main.

What Happens After a JoSAA Seat Is Allotted?

After receiving a seat, the candidate must accept it through the JoSAA portal, pay the prescribed seat-acceptance fee and upload the required documents for verification. JoSAA also asks candidates to choose an option such as Freeze, Float or Slide, depending on whether they want to keep the allotted seat or remain eligible for an upgrade in later rounds.

Documents B.Tech Students Should Keep Ready

Although the final document list is published with the reporting instructions, students should normally be prepared with their JEE Main and JoSAA documents along with Class 10 and Class 12 certificates, identity documents, category certificates where applicable, transfer or migration documents and the required admission undertakings.

Candidates claiming EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST or PwD benefits should pay particular attention to the prescribed certificate format and validity period because JoSAA applies category-specific documentation rules.

CSAB Special Round Admission

CSAB is conducted after the regular JoSAA rounds to fill seats that remain vacant in the NIT+ system. IIIT Sri City seats that become available after withdrawals, upgrades or non-reporting can therefore appear during CSAB counselling.

Students need to register separately for CSAB according to that year’s counselling schedule. Participating in JoSAA does not automatically mean that a candidate is entered into the CSAB Special Rounds.

DASA Admission

This route is separate from the normal JoSAA seat-allocation process and is intended for eligible foreign nationals and other candidate categories covered under the current DASA rules, including the CIWG framework where applicable. Applicants follow the central DASA admission process administered through the designated admission authority. Once a candidate receives an IIIT Sri City allotment, the institute handles the remaining fee payment, document submission and reporting process.

M.Tech Admission

IIIT Sri City has two distinct types of M.Tech admission:

1. Regular two-year M.Tech programmes, currently offered in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning and Cyber Security.
2. Online M.Tech programmes, currently offered in Cyber Security, IoT & Autonomous Systems and VLSI.

The admission processes for these two routes are different.

Regular M.Tech Admission Through GATE and CCMT

Candidates with a valid GATE score can seek admission to the regular M.Tech programmes through CCMT, the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan admissions.

Students first appear for GATE in an appropriate paper. After GATE results are announced, eligible candidates register for CCMT and fill their preferred institute-programme combinations.

If IIIT Sri City’s M.Tech programme is offered through CCMT in that cycle, the candidate can include it in the preference list. CCMT then allocates seats according to GATE score, category, programme eligibility, preference order and available seats.

Regular M.Tech Admission Without GATE

IIIT Sri City also provides an open-channel route for non-GATE applicants, which means a student does not necessarily need a valid GATE score to be considered for the regular M.Tech programme.

Shortlisted candidates then appear for a coding test and interview conducted by IIIT Sri City.

Other Non-GATE Applicants

The campus is spread across approximately 80 acres and includes academic buildings, laboratories, a library, hostels, dining facilities, sports areas, a gym and student activity spaces. Hostel and mess facilities are available within the residential setup, allowing students to live and study on the same campus.
