    CBSE Board Exams 2023: Pre-boards are exams soon to begin and most students are worried about their Maths preparation. You must remember that Pre-Boards serve as an opportunity to identify your weaknesses, work on your fundamentals and rectify the mistakes in the final Board Exams. Do not worry about making mistakes. They are the stepping stones of success!

    Also, identifying your paper attempting strategy and subjective writing approach is necessary to ace in Board exams. Pre-boards will help you gauge your level of preparation in comparison to your peers, though it should not discourage you. Remember, you are your only competition, no one else.     Begin Preparation by Scrutinising the Syllabus & Paper Pattern

    The present syllabus of Mathematics CBSE X Exam has been designed around seven units – Number Systems, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Geometry, Trigonometry, Mensuration, Statistics and Probability

    There are two exams that are conducted: Mathematics-Basic and Mathematics-Standard.

    The Typology of Questions – Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analysing, Evaluating and Creating | Total marks = 80 | Duration = 3 hrs.

    As per the sample papers released by CBSE, there will be 38 questions divided into five sections A, B, C, D and E. Section A includes 18 MCQs along with 2 Assertion-Reasoning type questions carrying 1 mark each. Apart from this, Section B includes 5 Short answer-I (SA-I) type questions carrying 2 marks each, Section C includes 6 Short answer-II (SA-II) type questions carrying 3 marks each, Section D includes 4 Long answer type questions carrying 5 marks each and Section E includes 3 case-based units of assessment of 4 marks each with sub-parts.

    Deleted Chapters/Topics

    As per CBSE, some chapters/topics have been deleted in Mathematics. So, it is necessary to understand the reduced syllabus and thoroughly practise the questions based on it.

    Chapter Topics
    Real Numbers Euclid’s division lemma, Decimal representation of rational numbers in terms of terminating/non-terminating recurring decimals
    Polynomials Statement and simple problems on division algorithm for polynomials with real coefficients
    Pair Of Linear Equations In Two Variables Simple problems on equations reducible to linear equations
    Coordinate Geometry Area of a triangle
    Triangles Proofs of the following theorems are deleted  

    • If a perpendicular is drawn from the vertex of the right angle of a right triangle to the hypotenuse, the triangles on each side of the perpendicular are similar to the whole triangle and to each other.
    • The ratio of the areas of two similar triangles is equal to the ratio of the squares of their corresponding sides.
    • In a right triangle, the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares on the other two sides.
    • In a triangle, if the square on one side is equal to the sum of the squares on the other two sides, the angles opposite to the first side is a right angle.
    Constructions Complete Chapter Deleted
    Trigonometric Identities Trigonometric ratios of complementary angles
    Surface Areas And Volumes
    • Frustum of a cone
    • Problems involving converting one type of metallic solid into another and other mixed problems. (Problems with combination of not more than two different solids be taken).
    Statistics
    • Step deviation Method for finding the mean  
    • Cumulative Frequency graph

    Important Chapters: Quadratic Equations, Arithmetic Progressions, Circles, Surface Areas and Volumes

    Practice Case-Study based questions from topics like ‘Surface Areas and Volumes’ and ‘Some applications of Trigonometry’

    Do Not Forget NCERT Exemplar & Exercises

    Solve NCERT and Exemplar problems repeatedly. It is imperative that you remember the key problems that are frequently asked in Board Exams. In a rush to solve multiple reference books, do not forget that most problems in Maths exams are based on NCERT.

    Repeatedly Practise through Mock Papers

    Practise the available Model Test Papers for both basic and standard Mathematics based on the new pattern within the stipulated time frame. Subjective-type questions should be thoroughly practised to learn the step-wise method of answering questions. Pay special attention to Assertion reason type of questions. It is very important to understand the concepts thoroughly to attempt such questions.
