Amazing Tips to keep your child Motivated

No matter how dedicated children are to learning, there will always be a time that they become demotivated for various reasons, most of them temporary (hopefully!).

Albert Einstein said: “It’s not that I’m smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.” His incredible doggedness led to success because he was motivated. It has been proved that everyone can use motivation to achieve personal success.

The exam season for the academic year has officially started. While some students are going through their half-yearly exams, some are already done with it and are busy preparing to sit for various scholarship exams. After that, students will pull-up-their-socks for annual exams. Therefore, it becomes really important for a child to stay motivated during the examination phase. And the most influential people who can get the task done are of course the parents.

By creating an encouraging environment, you, the parent, can start your child off on the right path.

Here are the tips and tricks to do the same:

  1. Have a strong relationship with your child
Have meaningful conversations, actually communicate with and listen to your child, have conversations about studies and daily life. Show an interest in what fascinates your child and explore his/her areas of interest.  Focus on how your child feels and facilitate learning through guidance and nurturing.
  1. Let them learn from failure
Often children are trying to conceal their concerns about scholastic achievement. Help them to embrace their imperfections and to accept that mistakes are okay (and part of our daily lives) and how they can learn from them. Empower them by showing them how to identify a mistake and to see it as part of the learning process.
  1. Encourage expression of opinion
Let them have a say when making appropriate choices and voicing their opinions.
  1. Set short-term and long-term goals
Short and long-term goals should be set. Be realistic, making sure that they are achievable. Write them down, making sure they are specific and measurable.
  1. Ask your child about learning at school
Ensure your child’s basic learning and listening skills are in place. These are paramount to reach success. Without them no amount of motivation or support will be significant.
  1. Adapt to their learning style
Online tests are available. It is very important to take the tests to help your child in getting the exact idea and practice for the actual exam.
  1. Celebrate achievements
Praise efforts, not results. There is nothing that beats affirmation. By offering positive reinforcement you will inspire your child to keep learning.
  1. Use the Right Words
You must have heard a lot of people saying that you should never compare your child with others. This statement is actually true to the core. Trying to talk to them on important aspects can lead to a strong impact on their mind and they can learn certain new things from you.
  1. Discuss their Exam Strategy
Discuss certain important things with your kids like How to write answers, how to make answers presentable, which questions to attempt first, how to divide time between various sections. 5 out of 10 students don’t pay attention to their strategy and lose out on marks.

As a parent, it is a time to constantly support your children, be aware of their state of mind, and be available expressively whenever they need you.

ALL THE BEST!
