Biology is a subject of science stream that can work as a stepping stone for a very amazing career in the field of medicine and biotechnology. The CBSE Class XII Biology syllabus is vast which makes it difficult for students to complete the entire syllabus on time and also have time for practice and revision. However, with proper planning it can be achieved.

PREPARATION TIPS FOR CLASS XII BIOLOGY

  • Know the exam pattern

It is imperative to be aware of the blueprint of CBSE Class XII Biology paper. Proper knowledge of the exam pattern not only helps in knowing about the types of questions asked but also marks distribution which plays an important role during the preparation. Additionally, it helps in making a strategy for preparation in advance, as to which questions to attempt first, how much time to devote to a particular question, etc. This can further help in saving time during the exam.

There are a total of 27 questions and five sections in the question paper and all questions are compulsory.

  • Focus on basics and stick to the syllabus

You need to prepare the entire syllabus thoroughly. Focus should be on understanding of the concepts. A thorough knowledge of the NCERT textbook is a must. Pay attention to each and every line of your NCERT textbook along with in-text questions and exercises so that you are confident to attempt any question in the exam.

  • Be thorough with diagrams and important terminologies

To ace a theoretical and conceptual subject like Biology, you need to be well-versed with all the important definitions, terminologies, and diagrams. Maintain a separate book where you can write down all the important definitions and terminologies and revise them at least twice in a day. Practice diagrams as many times as possible with proper labeling to be able to quickly draw diagrams in the exam.

  • Proper revision of important topics

Although it is essential to revise the entire syllabus thoroughly, pay extra attention to the important topics which hold more weightage. Besides, solve previous years’ papers and sample papers in a time-bound manner. This will not only ensure good written practice but also familiarize you with an exam-like scenario.

  • Time management

Managing time during the exam is crucial to complete the exam paper in the stipulated time frame. Divide your time strategically by setting deadlines to each section. Do not get stuck on any question. Planning in advance will not only keep you organized but also take off so much pressure from your mind. Here’s how you can divide your time:

Section A: 10 minutes

Section B: 30 Minutes

Section C: 50 Minutes

Section D: 30 minutes

Section E: 1 Hour

TIPS FOR LAST-MINUTE PREPARATION

  • Read the question carefully and understand what is asked before writing the answer.
  • Write neatly and draw diagrams using a sharp pencil.
  • Underline the important keywords.
  • Keep your answers compact, concise and to the point.
  • Draw diagram even if the question does not state.
