Normalization is used when an exam is held in multiple shifts with different question papers. It adjusts scores based on relative performance within each shift, ensuring candidates are ranked fairly. The aim is to remove any advantage from an easier paper or disadvantage from a tougher one.
Example: If Student A scores 640 in an easier shift and Student B scores 625 in a tougher shift, Student B's performance may be considered stronger. Normalization adjusts scores to account for such differences, ensuring a fair final merit list.
