Class 10th Biology: Concept of Regeneration in Planaria and Hydra

BY Team Aakash Byju's

Regeneration It is a process of asexual reproduction by which formation of young ones from the body parts or tissue of parent organisms.

Regeneration in planaria Planaria is a simple creature. It uses organogenesis on a very large scale to regenerate its entire body from small fragments of its body.

The small fragment of tissue contains one single neoblast cell. It has the amazing ability to regenerate. Stem cells are present throughout the body of planaria.

Regeneration In Hydra Hydra is a simple creature. Hydra can regenerate from missing body parts.

Hydra polyps are also capable of regenerating from re-aggregated cells.

When dissociated into a single cell, the polyps can reorganise and regenerate into a whole polyp.
