Fully funded by India’s Ministry of Education, it was one of the first IIITs established in the country.

The institute was conceived in 1992 as part of a national push to build advanced information technology and management education on the lines of the IITs and IIMs. It was formally established in 1997 and began academic operations in 1998 with the Post Graduate Diploma in Management and Information Technology (PGDMIT). The institute is accredited “A” grade by NAAC and declared an Institute of National Importance.

Today, ABV-IIITM Gwalior runs undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across three broad streams: Engineering, Information Technology and Sciences, and Management.

IIITM Gwalior: Campus & Hostel Facilities

ABV-IIITM Gwalior has a fully residential campus of about 160 acres at the foothills of Gwalior Fort. Hostel stay is mandatory for all students, including those from Gwalior.

Hostel

There are three boys’ hostels (BH1, BH2 and BH3, holding roughly 313, 311 and 256 students) and one girls’ hostel of around 135 seats. A larger boys’ hostel has been reported as planned. Rooms come with a bed, almirah, fan, study table and chair, and bathrooms have geysers. Every hostel has a reading room, a common room with cable TV, and table tennis and badminton facilities. Hostels also have RO drinking water, 24×7 security, CCTV, biometric entry and round-the-clock computer rooms with internet. Room sharing varies by batch, and some first-year boys report shared rooms.

Mess and fees

The mess serves breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner daily. Students report hostel charges of about Rs 12,000 to 12,500 and mess charges of about Rs 18,000 per semester, and most describe the food as average. The official 2026-27 fee notice is yet to be released.

Learning spaces

Lecture theatres are centrally air-conditioned and equipped with projectors. The library reportedly holds around 30,000 books and several journals, with digital access through INFLIBNET and DELNET.

Sports and health

The sports complex has a swimming pool, gym, squash and tennis courts, and basketball, badminton and table tennis facilities, alongside cricket and football grounds. A medical centre with a doctor and nurse on duty round the clock and a stationed ambulance serves the campus.

In addition, the campus has a shopping complex, ATM, post office and canteen, plus power backup across the campus.

H2

IIITM Gwalior: Highlights 2026-27

NIRF 2025 ranking: 96 in the Engineering category and 93 in the Management
