The Shift 2 pattern this session has been clear: Maths gets a notch lengthier in the afternoon. Not conceptually harder, just more steps per question. Students who went in with a time allocation plan fared better than those who let Maths eat into their Physics and Chemistry time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Topics Expected in the JEE Main 2026 Shift 2 Maths Paper (April 5)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Based on what NTA has been asking across Session 2, here is the expected topic spread for the JEE Main Maths Paper Solution 2026 once it is available:<\/span><\/p>\n

Calculus (heaviest unit, expect 7 to 9 questions): Definite and Indefinite Integration, Application of Derivatives, Continuity and Differentiability, Differential Equations, Limits<\/span><\/p>\n

Algebra (second heaviest, expect 6 to 8 questions): Matrices and Determinants, Sequences and Series, Quadratic Equations, Complex Numbers, Permutations and Combinations, Binomial Theorem<\/span><\/p>\n

Coordinate Geometry (expect 3 to 5 questions): Conic Sections (Parabola, Ellipse, Hyperbola), Straight Lines, Circles<\/span><\/p>\n

Vectors and 3D Geometry (expect 2 to 3 questions): Shortest distance between lines, Plane equations, Scalar triple product<\/span><\/p>\n

Others (expect 2 to 3 questions): Probability, Statistics, Trigonometry, Sets and Relations<\/span><\/p>\n

Calculus and Algebra together have accounted for roughly two-thirds of the Maths section in every shift this session. If you prepared those two units properly, you were looking at 14 to 17 questions out of 25 from just those areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

How to Calculate Your Maths Score<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Once the JEE Main 2026 Maths Answer Key for April 5 Shift 2 is live on this page, here is the formula:<\/span><\/p>\n

Maths Score = (Correct Answers x 4) minus (Incorrect Section A Answers x 1)<\/span><\/p>\n

Only Section A (MCQs) carries the -1 penalty. Section B (numerical value) questions have no negative marking. When counting wrong answers, only count those from Section A where you actually marked an incorrect option. Unattempted questions carry no penalty at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

Once you have your Maths score, add it to your Physics and Chemistry estimates for a total out of 300. Shift 1 vs Shift 2 Maths: The Honest Comparison<\/strong><\/h3>\n

What stays the same: 25 questions, 100 marks, same syllabus, same marking scheme, same three-hour window shared with Physics and Chemistry.<\/span><\/p>\n

What changes: The question set is entirely different. No question repeats across shifts on the same day.<\/span><\/p>\n

The trend this session: Shift 2 Maths has consistently been slightly lengthier than Shift 1. The concepts are comparable, but the calculation steps per question tend to be a notch higher in the afternoon. On April 2, this was the difference between a “moderate” Shift 1 Maths section and a “moderate to tough” Shift 2 one.<\/span><\/p>\n

Does that mean Shift 2 students are at a disadvantage? Not really. NTA’s normalisation accounts for exactly this kind of variation. A tougher paper means the same raw score converts to a higher percentile.<\/span><\/p>\n
