This institute was established by a joint enterprise of the Indian Government and Himachal Pradesh Government. Initially the classes for this institute commenced in <\/span><b>Government Polytechnic College, Hamirpur and later moved to the current campus in 1987.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In earlier times, this institute only had 3 departments (Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering).
