Later in the early 2000s, these institutions were renamed as NITs (National Institute of Technology). With time, more NITs were added to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aakash.ac.in\/blog\/top-nit-colleges-in-india-as-per-latest-nirf-ranking\/\"><b>list of NITs in India. <\/b><\/a><b>To this date, there are a total of 31 NITs all across the country.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>NIT Silchar is one of the 31 NITs across the country.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> NIT Silchar was earlier known as Regional Engineering College, Assam. It was established in the year 1967 from the association of Government of India and State Government of Assam.
