It stands as a universal healthcare initiative, emphasizing the importance of acceptance, inclusion, and advocacy for the rights of individuals with autism.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Understanding Autism<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) encompass a range of conditions marked by challenges in social interaction and communication. Individuals may also exhibit atypical patterns of behavior and activities, such as difficulty transitioning between tasks, fixation on details, and heightened sensitivity to sensory stimuli.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Causes and Risk Factors<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Various factors including extreme prematurity, prenatal exposure to pollutants, maternal health conditions like obesity or diabetes, immune disorders, and genetic predispositions contribute to the development of ASD. Risk factors further include having a sibling with ASD, certain genetic conditions, birth complications, or advanced parental age.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorders<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Symptoms of autism manifest differently across age groups. In young children, signs may include unresponsiveness to their names, avoidance of eye contact, repetitive behaviors, and delayed speech. Older individuals may struggle with understanding others&#8217; perspectives, exhibit peculiar speech patterns, adhere strictly to routines, and face challenges in socializing.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Treatment of Autism In India<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Treatment strategies are tailored to meet individual needs, aiming to alleviate symptoms and enhance learning and development. Therapeutic interventions encompass various forms of therapy to improve communication and behavior, complemented by medication when necessary to address associated medical conditions.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The theme of World Autism Awareness Day 2024<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The global prevalence of autism continues to rise, with a growing number of individuals diagnosed and receiving support. This year&#8217;s theme, &#8216;<strong>Empowering Autistic Voices,&#8217;<\/strong> underscores the importance of empowering individuals with autism to lead fulfilling lives and pursue meaningful careers.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Prevalence of Autism in India<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In India, an estimated 18 million people are diagnosed with autism, with approximately 1 to 1.5 percent of children aged two to nine years affected by ASD.
