There has been a drastic increase from 61.5 percent to 76 percent in the number of candidates registering for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE)-Advanced after clearing the JEE-Main. This is a considerable jump after witnessing a gradual drop in the number of candidates registering for JEE Advanced from 2014 to 2022.<\/p>\n

As the registration window for JEE Advanced was completed on May 8, 2023, out of a total of 2.5 lakh candidates who qualified for the exam, close to 1.9 lakh have registered for the entrance test for admission to some of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IITs). A total of 1.9 lakh boys had qualified for JEE Advanced, however, only 1.46 lakh registered for the test. Whereas the total number of girls who had qualified was 60,000 and only 44,000 registered for the JEE Advanced. A little over 100 foreign nationals have also registered for the JEE Advanced whereas around 400 Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) candidates have registered for the JEE Advanced 2023 exam. There are no exam centres in foreign countries. All the registered candidates will have to appear for the test in the designated exam centres across India.<\/p>\n

It is said that even though the number of students registering for JEE Advanced continues to be lesser than those who qualify, in comparison with the previous years; the registrations have increased considerably. Last year out of 2.6 lakh candidates who qualified for JEE Main, only 1.6 lahks had registered for the JEE Advanced. This year, the number of students who qualified has dropped, whereas the number of students registering for the JEE Advanced has increased considerably.<\/p>\n

In the past nine years, the number, as well as the percentage of students, was lowest in 2021 when only 1.5 lakh of the 2.6 lakh eligible candidates \u2014 58.1 percent \u2014 registered to take the final examination, which would determine admissions to 23 IITs across the country.<\/p>\n

While the number of candidates registering for the JEE Advanced has increased, the total number of seats up for admission in IITs is still not clear. There are a few new courses that have started in some of the IITs. However, the total count of seats and the seat matrix is still not finalized.<\/p>\n

About JEE Advanced<\/h3>\n

JEE Advanced is a national-level entrance exam conducted annually by one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for admission to undergraduate programs in engineering, science, and architecture. This year, IIT Guwahati is organizing this exam. To be eligible for JEE Advanced, a candidate must first clear the JEE Main exam, which is also conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Only the top 2,50,000 JEE Main rank holders are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.<\/p>\n
